ODESSA - Low TAKS scores will give students at 15 Basin schools a chance to transfer out. It's the Texas Education Agency's way of reaching in to give parents control, if they think their neighborhood school just isn't cutting it.
"If you look at our TAKS scores, Math is a concern for us, in K-12," said Assistant Superintendent Alma Gurrero.
831 Schools in Texas received the dubious distinction as a part of the Public Education Grant List.
"Parents of students that go to those schools have an option to transfer to a different school in the district or to a school outside of the district," said Gurrero, "If the school has fifty percent below passing in any of the subject areas; Math, Science, English or History. Than that school gets on the peg list."
