Former Big Spring Police Officer Steve Evrard died in Iraq, while working for SOC-SMG, INC., a security firm stationed in Iraq. Evrard and three other men, reportedly were leading a convoy when they were hit by a improvised explosive device. Three men died, one was left in critical condition.

Evrard spent five years on the Big Spring Police force. He is survived by his wife, Tanya. He is the son-in-law of well known Big Spring Police Sgt. Tony Everett.

"Steve was a really good guy, kind of quiet, kind of shy," said Lt.  Terry Chamness, with the Big Spring Police Department, "but once you got to know him, he was funny."

Evrard's Father in Law said he died doing what he loved.

"We have officers come and go, but he was still a part of our family as far as we are concerned," Lt. Chamness said.
