EL PASO, Texas (AP) - U.S. customs agents have arrested a 17-year-old El Paso boy after finding 30 pounds of marijuana in six large holiday candles he was allegedly bringing across from Mexico.

The feds aren't identifying the youth because of his age. They say the teen was returning from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, in a taxi late Saturday when they began a search of the vehicle.

According to a Customs and Border Protection statement issued today, agents found a large cardboard box containing the candles in the trunk, and a drug-sniffing dog detected contraband. The statement says an agent probed one candle and found a substance inside that tested positive for marijuana.

Customs agents say the boy told them the candles were given to him by his grandmother as a gift to his mother. The youth was turned over to El Paso police.
