Two nursing assistants fired after abuse of a patient in Big Spring

A Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring has wrapped up its investigation into recent allegations of abuse.

Two cetrtified nursing assistants are now out of a job.

The Texas Veterans Land Board in Austin confirms the two unidentified employees were fired late last week.

Spokesman Jim Snyder tells NewsWest Nine, the abuse allegations at the Lamun Lusk Sanchez Veterans Home happened early last month.

Snyder says there were no physical injuries to any patients, but a CNA handled a wheelchair patient in a rough manner.

Another CNA who failed to report the abuse was also fired.

State officials say they're adding additional training on abuse, and how to properly report it.
