We are 21 days away from Christmas, and across the area, stores are packed with people looking for the perfect gifts, and they're not always cheap.
The holidays can put a great strain on your wallet, and a loan could be the perfect thing to get that extra cashflow when you need , as long as you're smart about it.
At stores everywhere the cards are swiping, and the bills rising.
Money can be tight around the holidays, but bumming extra cash isn't easy.
"I wouldn't want to go to my mom and say let me borrow $100, and I'll pay you back," said Bianca Gonzalez, manager of Economy Loan Company.
At Economy Loan Company, extra cash is their specialty.
"It's not necessarily that they don't have money," Gonzalez said. "They just need some extra."
And they get it through signature loans. Different than a payday loan which has to be paid back in a matter of weeks, these you can pay back month to month, and they help build credit. It's an attractive option, especially during the holidays.
"Everyday it's constant. On the phone applications or people are coming in and taking their applications on their lunch break, after work," Gonzalez said. "On the application we do ask what's the reason for the loan and that's the first response, is 'I need Christmas money.'"
But though it may be easy to forget, a loan is a loan.
"Loans are like any other debt. If you can't pay it back it's always a problem."
Financial consultant Joe Moya warns of the pitfalls of borrowing money.
"The mistake most people make is that they take out the loan with no plan of how to pay it back."
If you're low on funds and a loan isn't an option, Moya says there is another way to get holiday cash.
"Cashflow is a result of effort you put into it. In other words, it's called work."
In our booming economy, stores can use the extra manpower. But for those who prefer to stay at home, a loan can be a good option if you're careful.
"It might be your last resort," Gonzalez said. "But it doesn't hurt to come in, and see if you qualify."
At Economy Loan Company you can qualify for anywhere from $30 to $1,140, and with that you do have a maximum of 10 months to pay it back.
So if you're one of the many heading out here to do some shopping, it's definitely an option to keep in mind.
