Lubbock County inmate mistakenly released

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) - A police manhunt is under way in and around Lubbock after Lubbock County Jail officials mistakenly released an inmate.

Lubbock County sheriff's officials say 30-year-old Joseph Luis Gonzales Jr. was turned loose late last night. Sheriff David Gutierrez says he's ordered an investigation into how it happened.

Gonzales is described as 5-feet-9 and 160 pounds. Crosses are tattooed on his right wrist and left hand, "Gonzales" is tattooed on his left arm, "JG" is tattooed on his right arm, and "S.M."
and dots are marked on his left arm.

He was held on charges of aggravated assault, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and evading arrest on bonds totaling almost $211,000.
