Texas Hotel goes green

A Dallas hotel is joining a nationwide trend in an attempt to become more environmentally friendly.
Hotel Palomar Dallas, a Kimpton Hotel, is a part of a handful of other Texas hotels where saving water, conserving energy and recycling is the norm.
"We've been working with our green initiatives for 23 years now," said Tracie Houston of Kimpton Hotels.
Hotel Palomar said it offers recycling in each room, special lights in the hallway and natural soaps and shampoos.

Hotel guests who drive a hybrid car are treated to free valet.

"It doesn't cost us money. It's just the right thing to do," Houston said.
The hotel said it saves money by cutting energy costs.

Terry Jensen, an environmental enthusiast with the North Texas Sierra Club, said she applauds the local effort, but is quick to point out that more can be done.

"We're behind the rest of the nation, behind in our buildings, behind in what we eat," Jensen said.
