GALLUP, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say two men died this morning on Interstate 40 east of Gallup in separate accidents that occurred within a couple of hours of each other.

McKinley County sheriff's accident reconstruction investigator Owen Pena says the driver of a pickup truck was killed about 4 a.m. when his truck drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer rig.

His identity was withheld pending notification of relatives.

Pena says that about two hours later, a tractor-trailer rig rear-ended another rig stopped on I-40 in heavy traffic.  He says the driver of the first rig, Helit Halito of Amarillo, Texas, was killed.
