ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Two fugitives from a Kansas prison and a former guard accused of helping them were captured in Grants early this morning after one escapee fired shots at police.

Thirty-three-year-old Jesse Bell and 26-year-old Steven Ford along with 23-year-old former guard Amber Goff were taken into custody.

That's according to Grants police Detective Moses Marquez.

Police believe Goff helped Ford and Bell escape from the Kansas prison Sunday night.

Marquez says Grants police received a call this morning about a suspicious man at an apartment complex.

Marquez says two officers who answered the call captured Bell.

He says that as they talked with him, Ford shot at them.

The officers weren't hit.

He says Ford then was captured without a struggle.
