A Midland family is homeless, Sunday night after a fire destroyed their mobile home in Mildand County just before noon.
Fire Crews from Greenwood, North East Midland County and the Midland Fire Department showed up to get the fire under control, but were unable to save the home. The fire spread to a nearby field of grass and it took several hours to get it contained.
"When we pulled up with the amount of smoke we couldn't tell how many might have been on fire," said Dale Little, Midland Co. Fire Marshal, "It was devastating to the people that lost their home but we could have lost several here. West Texas is just a tender box right now and it doesn't take much for it to catch on fire." Dark smoke blanket the sky as the family, dressed in their Sunday best returned from church to find their home devoured by flames.
This isn't the first time the neighborhood has seen fires develop. Back in July just down the street on County Road 118 a massive grass fire threatened several homes. Sunday the red cross showed up to offer help.
"They drove straight to there house and before they could get here the street was blocked the fire department was already here, they could see flames so they knew their house was on fire," said Juan Escarsega, a family friend, "There are so many things, their precious belongings and so forth that they will never get back."
