Pecos County Robbery now being investigated as an inside job

Staff Report

We have an update on the armed robbery in Pecos county, we first told you about last week.

Turns out, there was never an armed robber.

Investigators say it was an inside job.

According to Pecos County Sheriff Cliff Harris, the clerk at the Chevron, just off Interstate ten in Bakersfield, made the whole thing up, so he could make off with around 16-hundred dollars in cash.

The report of the alleged robbery sparked an 18 hour manhunt last week.

No suspect was ever found, but the cash turned up the next day.

Sheriff Harris tells NewsWest Nine, no one's been arrested just yet, but the case is going straight to the grand jury.
