DEMING, N.M. (AP) - U.S. Border Patrol agents have seized more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana from a stolen pickup truck in southwestern New Mexico.

The agents assigned to the Deming station say the pickup truck illegally entered the United States from Mexico (Thursday) and traveled north on a farm road toward New Mexico 9.

Authorities say the truck made a U-turn and headed back toward Mexico.

Officials say the truck stopped, the driver and a passenger fled on foot to Mexico, and agents seized the marijuana.
