I spoke with the head of Odessa Police Department's S.W.A.T. Team Art Fuentes and he says the loss of Corporal Abel Marquez is heartbreaking.
Corporal Abel Marquez died yesterday in Lubbock, finally succumbing to wounds he received last Saturday after answering a domestic disturbance call.
Fuentes tells NewsWest Nine, Marquez love his children very much, saying his family was the most important thing in his life.
He was very close to both of his brothers, also Odessa Police officers.
Marquez was a compassionate street cop who loved serving his community.
Here's a look at Marquez's resume.
In 1996, he got his basic jailers license from the Odessa College Law Enforcement Academy.
A year later, he started his career as a jailer in Ector County.
In July 2000, Abel Marquez joined his brothers Sergeant Pete Marquez and Corporal Phillip Marquez at the Odessa Police Department.
Then graduated from the Permian Basin Law Enforcement Academy in December of 2000.
Corporal Marquez served in the Odessa Police Department S.W.A.T. Team.
Fuentes goes on to say Corporal Abel Marquez was one of Odessa's many sons and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter Sandra and his son Isaac.
