First Lady Laura Bush had surgery Saturday to relieve pain caused by pinched nerves in her neck.

Her press secretary says the two-and-a-half hour operation at George Washington University Hospital was successful.

She left the hospital this afternoon and returned to the White House where she's reported to be resting comfortably.

The First Lady hurt her neck and shoulder while hiking earlier this year.

The injury prevented her from traveling with the President to Australia this week.
