There is a new Texas law designed to keep students safer.

The law requires every school to have an automated external defibrillator at athletic events.

Texas Governor Rick Perry was on hand for Wednesday's ceremonial signing at Booker T. Washington High School in Houston.

Last year, a 14-year old student at this school collapsed and died while on the track.

The new law also requires every school in the State to have at least one defibrillator.
