Parts of New Mexico will soon have a new area code as of October seventh.
Callers will have a 12-month grace period to get used to the new five-seven-five area code, but starting January 11th the new area code is into full effect.
The five-seven-five area code effects Hobbs, Eunice, and Jal. While the old five-zero-five will stay in Albuqurque, Santa Fe and most of the northwestern part of the state.
The new area code is needed, because the state predicts that it will run out of numbers by 2009.
