According to his campaign, actor and former Senator Fred Thompson will officially join the Republican field next Thursday via web cast.
For months, Fred Thompson has been the "officially unofficial" candidate.
Fred Thompson said, "We'll be raising some money, we'll be putting together a staff in order to reach out to some more people, and test the level of support we have."
But next week, the former Tennessee senator and Law & Order DA will finally make it "officially official."
Kicking off a campaign for the Republican presidential nomination with a webcast September 6th.
Thompson will enter a crowded GOP field in which he is already considered one of the frontrunners along with Rudy Guiliani, Mitt Romney, and John McCain.
But the soon-to-be candidate had only a so-so summer, including a lackluster fundraising season and a few shakeups in his campaign staff.
Still, his official entry is certain to shake things up for Republicans.
But it remains to be seen, if the official Thompson campaign will be an unstoppable force or too little, too late.
After his official web cast, Thompson plans to tour in the early primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina.
