Dallas woman behind bars after robbing children

Dallas police said they have arrested a 39-year-old woman accused of robbing children as young as three years old.

Police said Robin Whyte ripped jewelry off the bodies of little children at a playground and laundromat to make quick money.

Whyte confessed to robbing three young children, and she is a suspect in at least three other cases, authorities said.

Dallas police said Esmeralda Herrara is one of the children who have recently had jewelry yanked from around their neck or arms.

"I want to tell her that I hate her for doing that to me," Herrara said. "I just want her to go jail for the rest of her life."

The 10-year-old girl cried as she talked about what happened to her on her walk home from school Tuesday.

"A lady in a car asked me for directions to a house and I told her no," Herrara said.

But Herrara said yes when the woman asked her for a pen and paper, and that is when she learned the woman actually wanted something else.

"When she was trying to take off my necklace, I started crying cause I got scared," Herrara said. "She just took it off and started running to a car."

A neighbor followed the woman to a pawnshop where Whyte was arrested.

"Basically it looks she was just preying on small children," Dallas police Sgt. Gil Cerda said.

Whyte is charged with one count of robbery and two counts of theft, authorities said.
