The Ector County Independent School District will start the new school year with an Interim Superintendent.
On Thursday night, in a four to two vote, board members decided to promote Hector Mendez from Temporary Superintendent to Interim, and he'll get a big boost in pay.
Mendez will make 172,500 dollars, which is about what the former Superintendent Wendell Sollis made just before the district bought out the last year of his contract.
One trustee, Randy Rives, voted against Mendez, because he thought the salary range was too high, and wanted more information.
Mendez will serve as an at will employee, meaning the board can reassign his employment at a moments notice, and his pay would go back to about 90 thousand dollars.
Mendez says he's excited about the opportunity.
"I'm grateful to the board members that voted to support me, and so I will continue doing the same job. I've been selected and I know fully well the Interim, and i know that the objective at some point is to hire a Superintendent, and I'm willing to serve in the present capacity," Interim Superintendent Hector Mendez said.
