CARLSBAD, N.M.- The Eddy County sheriff's office and Artesia police are merging their dispatch operations 18 months ahead of schedule.
The Eddy County Commission approved the transition, effective September 1st.
Eddy County Manager Steve Massey says the merger originally was to occur after the completion of a new dispatch facility.
Plans for the center have not been drawn up.
Officials say it will take at least 18 months from design to completion.
Massey says that until the dispatch center is built, Artesia police dispatchers will remain at the police department and Eddy County dispatchers will dispatch from Carlsbad.
