PECOS- A Pecos man is accused of killing a three year old girl. Nineteen year old Jonathon Barraza showed up in a Houston courtroom Monday, he is charged with capital murder, after police say they found the body of Delyza Hernandez, the daughter of the suspects girlfriend, Friday.
Barraza was alone with the girl at an apartment complex in Houston, when police say he beat the girl so badly he ruptured her organs. He reportedly used a neighbors phone to call 911 but the girl was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
"It's unbelievable that someone could hurt a baby like that," said Kathy Ortiz, said Delyza Hernandez's grandmother "she didn't deserve to die the way she did."
"Delyza was always a happy baby, she liked to pick flowers, she liked to carry her little purses, she loved Dora, she loved to watch Dora, she was learning Spanish," she said.
Delyza would have turned four September 30th. Kathy Ortiz says she hopes this tragedy will help other single mothers beware of the men they bring around their children.
"He wouldn't even let them call us, he'd monitor the calls. He was so controlling and threatening to kill her, She was just so scared my daughter," Ortiz said she thinks it could have been prevented, "If they see that they are violent at all, get away from them as fast as you can because you don't know if this can happen to you, because we never thought this would happen to us."
