The competition is on in Big Spring in the World Hangliding Championship.

Saturday was the third day out of a ten day contest that gave hangliding experts the chance to show off their skills.

Representatives from 26 countries have the chance to win in both individual or team competitions, and NewsWest 9 found that West Texas weather is great for gliding.

"The weather conditions are superberb for this type of event. We get good strong ground heating, strong thermals that life the gliders high into the air as they circle within them and that they're able to glide to the next column of rising air along their flight path," Chief Meteorologist Gary Osoba said.

The Hanger 25 Air Museum in Big Spring also held a flight festival Saturday along with the tournament.
