A medical plane crashed near Ruidoso Sunday night, killing everyone on board, including its young patient.

Debris scattered over a large area in Devil's Canyon in the Lincoln National Forest.

Five people were on board the air ambulance, including a 15-month old patient, Lilly, and her mother, Tracy Smith.

The plane crashed almost as soon as it took off from Ruidoso Regional Airport.

There were thunderstorms in the area, and weather may have played a part in the plane going down.

The little girl was being taken to Albuquerque.

So far officials have not said why the little girl was being transported.

The plane was owned by Southwest Medevac out of Las Cruces.

The company says they have never lost a plane before.
