Staff Report

Two Jeff Davis County Deputies are breathing a sigh of relief.

They'll soon collect 30 thousand dollars in overtime money owed them through a State Border security grant.

That program is called Operation Linebacker, and both deputies worked hundreds of hours in overtime.

Residents tell us that rumors about the deputies either going on strike, or leaving their jobs were running rampant in Ft. Davis.

Meantime, County Attorney Bart Medley says he believes that state money should arrive by friday.

"All the paperwork for the Operation Linebacker overtime money has been submitted to the state agency, they were waiting on the Governors office, Department of Emergency Management to make a deposit into our account," Medley said.

Other residents we've spoken with were angry at Sheriff Tom Roberts for not applying for the full grant money the state is offering.

We did learn the county has received a deadline extension of September first to reapply for more funds in connection with Operation Linebacker.
