A Midland soldier injured in an ambush in Afghanistan is now being treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

John Faulkenberry made the transfer from Germany to the U.S. today.

The government allowed his wife, Sara, to fly with him.

Family members tell NewsWest Nine the 24 year old will have to undergo several more surgeries to repair severe damage to his right leg.

He was injured by a rocket propelled granade.

Doctors say with extensive rehab he should regain full use of his leg.

An account has been set up to help Faulkenberry's family with travel expenses to visit him.

To donate, just stop by any Bank of America branch and tell them you want to donate to the John Faulkenberry fund.
