A former Midland teacher will find out his fate on Wednesday.

A jury wants to see him get jail time, and the decision is now in the judge's hands.

David Van Houten could face up to 26 years behind bars. The jury took a little more than an hour Tuesday to decide he should get hard time, instead of probation.

Yesterday, Van Houten was convicted on charges of sexual assault of a child, and an improper relationship between and educator and a student.

No word yet if Van Houten will appeal.

The victim's family tells NewsWest Nine, they don't want to comment at this time.

Van Houten is scheduled for sentencing on Wednesday.
