Election day is still months away, but that's not stopping one Midlander from announcing her plans.

Stephanie sparkman says she is planning to run for mayor.

She has set up an exploratory committee for her campaign.

Sparkman has spent the past several years focusing on bringing the FutureGen Power Plant project to the Permian Basin.

Sparkman also wants to clear up on misconceptions about her reasons for running for Mayor.

"Some people have said I have taken advantage of the situation at City Hall, and I'd like to set the record straight by saying I'm not taking advantage it's because of what's going on down at City Hall that I decided to run.  Very big difference," Sparkman said.

Sparkman plans to reveal details about her platform in the next coming months.

Some of the goals she shared with NewsWest Nine include bringing in new strong leadership to Midland, making the Tall City an energy epicenter, and looking at lowering property taxes.
