A jury has now been seated for a former Midland Academy Charter School teacher on trial for allegedly having an inproper relationship with a student.

Testimony will start today for David Van Houten.

He has plead not guilty to two counts of sexual assault with a child and two counts of improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Van Houten was arrested in November and later released after posting bond.

Allegations between Van Houten and a female student were brought to the attention of school board members in mid-October.

Two days before the teenaged victim's parents filed a report against the teacher, school board members voted to dismiss Van Houten.
