A Texas woman says a high school classmate turned porn star stole her name.

Syvette Wimberly is suing Lara Madden for using her name as a stage name in pornographic films without her permission.

Madden knew Wimberly from ninth grade at Kingwood High School.

Since then Madden, appearing under the name Syvette Wimberly, has appeared in about a dozen adult films.

"She intentionally chose to use that name and knowing it could have consequences for my client," said Caj D. Boatwright, Wimberly's attorney.

Wimberly is suing Madden and Vivid Entertainment, alleging negligence, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

"My client has had to deal with odd phone calls, former classmates that didn't know her that well sending her e-mails about whether she's now in the adult film industry," Boatwright said.

Houston lawyer Kent Schaeffer is representing Madden.

He said the porn star has not damaged Wimberly's reputation.

"The people who know the real Syvette know she is not in the adult entertainment industry. She doesn't make these movies," Schaeffer said.

He said Madden was not trying to hurt Wimberly by using her name, and claimed she just liked the sound of it.

"She did not intend to harm this girl's reputation -- had no reason to think anybody would associate these films with that individual and didn't do this to get back at her in any way. She simply picked the name that she thought was a cool name," Schaeffer said.
