It really does pay to fight crime these days in Fort Stockton.

The City Council unanimously approved a two dollar and 50 cent pay raise for police officers.

For those on salary, that comes out to 52-hundred dollars more per year.

That pushes the median salary to about 38 thousand dollars.

Right now the department is short two officers.

The city is hoping the raise will help them hang on to the officers they have and bring in new ones to fill the open spots.
