The rumors have now been confirmed. Dunlaps is closing all of its stores in Texas, and a lot of regular shoppers are sad to see it go.

"We drove up one day and saw the closing signs," said Kathy Deaver, a Dunlaps shopper.

The signs are clear. Dunlaps is closing.

"Dunlaps has been in business since, as long as I've know about West Texas, and done well," said shopper Bob Chambers. "All of a sudden they're closing. Doesn't make sense."

The company started liquidating all of its merchandise in June, but didn't give the official word until Monday. They say it's for financial reasons. At the same time, we still don't know exactly when they're going to shut their doors for the final time. A manager from the Odessa store said they will continue with their sales until the end of August.

"Well it's sad, you know, because Dunlaps has been around for years," said one shopper.

"I hate to see it. I wish they would stay open," said one Odessa resident.

House Representative Buddy West said he'll now have to find a new place to do his shopping.

"You know, it's been a stay in Odessa for years. That's where I used to buy all my clothes," said West.

One Big Spring couple shopping at the Midland Dunlaps said seeing these doors shut isn't anything new.

"We had a real nice store in Big Spring. It was in downtown Big Spring," said G.B. Smith. "It wasn't in a shopping center, but it was a real nice store."

NewsWest 9 spoke again with the Dunlaps manager in Odessa. She said that while employees will be terminated, the company will write recommendations.
