Family fight turns into shooting in West Odessa

Staff Report
NewsWest 9

Tragedy strikes this Fourth of July holiday as a family fight takes a terrible turn, when gunshots ring out inside a West Odessa home.

The shooting occured just after eight Tuesday night in the 71 hundred block of west Dunn, just off Highway 1936.

The Ector County Sheriff's Office says one man in his late 40's suffered several gunshot wounds and was given CPR at the scene.

They rushed him to Medical Center Hospital.

The man's nephew was detained and questioned and could be charged in the case, depending on the outcome of witness interviews.   Authorities also recovered a pistol.

"We have one person in custody that we're interviewing.  A person of interest we believe may be involved in the shooting.  We have one victim who's been transported to M.C.H. Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.  His condition is unknown at this time.  It appears to be family related.  We have secured the scene as a crime scene and they're processing it at this time.  It was a Semi-automatic weapon.  We have that and it's been logged into evidence," says Gary Duesler of the Ector Co. Sheriff's Office."

Once again, we'll pass along the name of that shooting victim and the suspect just as soon as authorities release it.   Keep it here on NewsWest Nine as we continue to follow this developing story.
