Rick Etheredge, Assignments Editor

The senior citizen in the news room, Rick Etheredge handles local news assignments for NewsWest 9.

He is a native West Texan, born in Colorado City and raised in Kermit.
Rick graduated with honors from Kermit High School and Hardin-Simmons
University.  He also has a master's degree from Texas Tech.
Rick's background includes 35 years as teacher, counselor, and Dean of Students with M.I.S.D.

He also has over 40 years of experience in the media, including newspaper, radio and television with stops in Kermit, Odessa, Abilene, Lubbock, Dallas and Midland.
Most of that time was devoted to gathering, writing and reporting news.
He often jokes about the media jobs where he had to change his on-air name--Rick O'Shay, Rick Casey, Brother Rick, Chris Cross, your morning man, Rick Glenn and "R" man.

Rick's favorite thing to do is spending time with his granddaughter, his daughter, and his wife of 41 years, Louise.

He also enjoys high school and college football games, outdoor activities and working at his home computer.

Rick finds his work at NewWest 9 to be rewarding.  His knowledge of West Texas life, economy, politics, education and people is valuable in finding news stories.  Being on top of what is happening in this area is a priority for him.
