ODESSA, TX (KWES) - The da Vinci XI Surgical Robot, the surgical robot designed to help fight obesity, is now being put to use by the Medical Center Health System.
A presentation showing the community how this robot perform bariatric surgery was held Tuesday at Bowie Middle School.
The robot allows surgeons to have more control by using a console instead of performing the surgery with their own hands.
"This technology allows surgeons to do complex surgery that typically patients would have to be open up for. Anywhere from general surgery to [gynecology] and neurology procedures to actually doing a minimally invasive format so to actually see the patient from being open up .. with this platform," said Daniel Seeley, MCHS.
Another presentation will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Odessa College Health and Science Center.
MCHS representatives will be there to answer any questions you may have.
