(KWES) - The threat for heavy rainfall and flash flooding will be possible for portions of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico beginning Thursday night.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for portions of West Texas and Southeast New Mexico through Friday morning. The watch includes: The Permian Basin, Southeast New Mexico, Upper Trans-Pecos and the Guadalupe Mountains.

The threat for flash flooding and heavy rain should decrease by Saturday.

Right now, rain coverage for the area will be highest Thursday night into Friday morning with a 50% coverage.

Rain coverage will decrease to 40% by Friday afternoon and evening.

If flash flooding occurs, remember to turn around and don't drown!

Set Up: Deep tropical moisture and lift will spread into the area late Thursday into Friday morning. These ingredients will produce areas of showers and storms that could result in flooding. A cold front will also move through the area Friday. This front could continue the threat for more showers and storms into Friday evening.
Amounts: Rainfall amounts will likely vary, however, most amounts will be near or below 1 inch. Higher amounts of 2-3 inches will be possible within the Flash Flood Watch area.
