BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - Tuesday marks 17 years since the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center in New York City, a day the nation will never forget.
Members of the community in Big Spring gathered around the American flag at the Scenic Mountain Medical Center to remember the lives lost during the September 11 attacks.
Speakers read prayers and a observed a moment of silence.
Manny Negron was among those present at the ceremony, he said honoring those who lost their lives saving others was the least he could do.
"They are our first responders. It doesn't matter what kind of act, either violence or an emergency. -- our first responders are heroes and they come and save lives. They come to make people safe and so we just want to honor them no matter where they are at," Negron said.
Negron believes it's important to teach the younger generation about the history of the attacks and first responders who were present at the time.
