ECTOR COUNTY, TX (KWES) - Video of students at Permian High School sitting on buckets, donated by Home Depot, during an English class blew up on social media Thursday.
Taken by a Permian student, the was described by the school district as a misconception.
According to school officials, the English teacher was in need of 36 additional desks for the classroom the district had no idea the teacher was in need of extra desks.
"They had more kids in the classroom than desks and they'd been needing some desks in the classroom. I do not want to be critical of the teacher at all. It's a situation she's been facing for a couple of days and took the initiative. We love that independence, fixing a problem that you see without feeling like you're a burden yourself. However, in this case had we known, we have more desks in the district, we have money in the budget for tables and chairs. There wasn't a reason for tables and chairs and buckets for the classroom," said Mike Adkins, ECISD director of communications.
Adkins says they do have more desks in the district and added that if any staff members are in need of supplies, the district has the resources.
