Wanted felon arrested after confronting officers at OPD with shotgun

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Odessa Police arrested Nicolas Luna Lopez, 38, Monday evening for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon "3rd Degree Felony", Prohibited Weapon "3rd Degree Felony", Public Intoxication "Class C Misdemeanor", and for a parole violation warrant.

While officers were exiting the west doors of the Odessa Police Department, they observed a Dodge Journey pull into the sally port.

The front passenger began to shout out the window at officers before leaving the vehicle.

Officers immediately observed the man, later identified as Lopez, had a shotgun within one foot of his right hand.

According to police, Lopez began to reach for the shotgun but officers immediately detained him and retrieved the loaded shotgun.

Lopez later admitted that he had smoked methamphetamine.

Police also state Lopez had a parole violation warrant and a convicted felon.

Lopez was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
