ODESSA, TX (KWES) - Ector County ISD is starting the process to find their next district leader.
"We want someone that cares," said Delma Abalos, Position 2, Ector County ISD Board of Trustees.
Even before a new superintendent is named, this week board members will decide on the search firm to help them find the right person.
"We would like to get a firm that has a reach of superintendents, so they could bring a good choice to Ector County," said Abalos.
Over two days close to a handful of firms will be interviewed by the board. The trustees' choice will be about which one can find the right candidate that will work with everyone in the district.
"Someone that has a proven record of bringing scores up, dealing with issues that a district faces whether it be financial or academic," said Abalos.
Most importantly for Abalos, which firm will find the right person who can be counted on?
"I think building trust within our community is going to be a big part of what we need in a superintendent," said Abalos.
Finding the next district leader is on the agenda for the board of trustees but first, they need to find the right team for the job.
"Go out into the community and find out what the community expects in a new superintendent. What the board expects in a new superintendent. What the administration expects. Talk to everyone," said Abalos.
The special meeting will be held Wednesday and Thursday this week, beginning at 6:00 P.M. in the ECISD Board Room.
Board president Doyle Woodall tells us the current superintendent, Tom Crowe is set to retire from his position on December 22nd.
