The Floydada Police Department is warning residents of scammers who are using people's photos to superimpose their bodies to make it look like they are committing lewd acts.

The department has reported they are getting calls from people saying the scammers are using extortion tactics, forcing residents to pay them through the Western Union service, according to an FPD Facebook post.

Scammers begin by messaging people through Facebook messenger and starting a conversation. Then they video chat with the victims and get a still photo of the person from the chat screen.

Once the scammers get the still photo they superimpose adult content into the picture so the person looks like they are performing lewd acts. The scammers then threaten to send the photo to the person's entire friends list unless they are paid.

FPD is advising people to ignore Facebook messages from phone numbers or profile that are not recognized. Any other questions should be fielded to FPD at 806-983-4901.
