Big Spring needs more people to foster pets

This year close to about 20 dogs have been euthanize at the shelter due to being at capacity.

BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - Big Spring Animal Shelter has been packed with both dogs and cats.

This year, close to about 20 dogs have been euthanized at the shelter due being at capacity.

There are three animals rescues in Big Spring that are looking for more people to volunteer.

"I will be honest it's stressful. It's so stressful, but the benefits in the long run outweigh everything. Just seeing these little faces and they are safe...and they are not being euthanized and they are getting adopted and going to homes. That's just the best part," said Allison James, Animal Rescuer.

People like James have fought to make the Big Spring Animal Shelter a no-kill shelter, but they need more people to open their homes and take in more dogs and cats.

"Mainly, that progress is especially due to the rescues in the area and volunteers and networkers and people working extremely hard to save those animals," said James.

Big Spring Animal shelter has been above or around 90% rate this year.

"The problem with the shelter or this particular community is a very high intake with the animals," said James.

James said, with a high number of dogs being brought into the shelter about 20 dogs have been euthanized in the general population this year.

Luke is a terrier lab mix James took in as a foster dog,.

Where he was adopted and lives a completely different life.

"And, he was adopted and now he has his own Instagram page," said James.
