MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The USA Diving Junior National Championships will kick off tomorrow in Atlanta, Georgia. Twelve divers from Midland have qualified and will be making the trip.
Athletes from ages 10 to 18 have been in the pool all summer training for the event and have their sights set on standing on the podium.
"I hope I get top three or first you know," said COM diver Isabel Bailey.
For those competing in the under 11 division, this will be their first opportunity to see how they measure up to the rest of the country and they are feeling ready.
"Confident, a little nervous but hoping to do well," said COM diver Addison Williams.
The older divers have been there before, and are happy to be a part of COM Aquatics because of who they're surrounded by.
"All the friends and all the coaches," said COM diver Grace Austin.
"People they're just so nice and I have good friends here," said COM diver Nick Stone.
While friends make it fun, it's work too. These kids have some pretty high goals whether it be to compete in college or even beyond.
"My goal is to be able to go to the Olympics win at least top three that's been my dream," said Bailey.
While it is a lofty goal, these kids have been able to train around someone who is knocking on the door of the 2020 Olympics, Tarrin Gilliland and two divers who will be a part of division one programs next fall.
Proving right in front of the young divers, that hard work really can pay off.
"To see the process they go through and you can see how strong they get and everything," said Stone.
