Local singer, songwriter ready to bless stage in hometown this weekend

MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - A Midland man who's been all over the nation will be back this weekend to perform in front of his hometown.

"I definitely lean towards more of a soul vibe," said Matt New, singer/songwriter

Music has always been a part of New's life.

"Ever since I was young I've always looked up to certain guys, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, all these guys that I loved," said New.

Playing the piano or singing a song, music has taken him from singing in his church to blind auditions on The Voice Season 13.

"I want to write about my life, my faith, what I believe in, what I value," said New.

This Saturday, New will be one of the handful of musicians performing in Downtown Midland during the Music in the City concert. Music has brought New's life full-circle.

"I have on my arm a tattoo which says create. My dream is to create music that creates moments for people," said New.

It's done so much for him. Being born in Odessa, later moving to Midland he hopes those looking to follow his same path listen to their hearts and follow the music.

"There's no harm in failing. When I went to the Voice, I knew full well I could not get a chair turn in front of millions of people. The failure didn't stop me, the success, the goal, and the dream is way bigger than failing," said New.

The concert is free for the public. It will be at the Wall Street Lofts starting at 7:00 p.m.

New says the concert wouldn't have been made possible without the help of local sponsors.
