City of Tyler looking into 'self-sustaining' health plan for employees

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The City of Tyler is looking into changes to health insurance plans that would impact around 800 employees.

On July 11, the city council reviewed options that they hope will make next year’s plan self-sustainable, through the amount of money that both the city and individual employees put into it.

The options being examined include taking away deductibles and premiums and replacing them with a more flexible health savings account or making changes to the deductible level.

No decision was made on the new insurance plans; the council has tabled the item for 30 days.
