OPD, DPS conduct commercial vehicle enforcement operation

The Odessa Police Department Traffic Unit and Texas Department of Public Safety conducted a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement operation Monday in Northeast Odessa. The operation consisted of trucks violating the truck route city ordinance along with other violations involving inspections. A total of 44 inspections were conducted and 207 violations were found resulting in 25 citations being issued. A total of 32 trucks and 4 drivers were also put out of service as a result of the operation. 

OPD will continue to enforce the city ordinance involving truck routes in the city limits.

The city ordinance does not allow through traffic of trucks within the city limits.Trucks that:

  • style="text-align:justify;">Have a manufacturer's gross weight rating of more than ten thousand (10,000) pounds
  • style="text-align:justify;">Are a single unit vehicle with tandem axles
  • style="text-align:justify;">Or are truck-tractor/semitrailer combinations

Must travel on:

  • style="text-align:justify;">Loop 338
  • style="text-align:justify;">Interstate Highway 20

Truck drivers with a destination off the designated truck routes must use the shortest most direct route to reach their destination.
