Permian Basin Area Foundation awards $1.4 million to 34 organizations

Thursday, the Permian Basin Area Foundation announced $1,486,807 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving the West Texas region.

PERMIAN BASIN, TX (KWES) - Thursday, the Permian Basin Area Foundation announced $1,486,807 in grants to nonprofit organizations serving the West Texas region. Of this amount, $1,171,807 was awarded during the semi-annual competitive grant cycle.

The foundation has grown to include more than 300 permanent funds, serving communities of more than 20 counties in West Texas thanks to the generosity of donors. "The foundation's donors have always been the heart and soul of its outreach to the community," McCrary said.

Darlene Mays, a member of the Grants Committee, presented the following 34 nonprofit organizations with competitive grant awards:

In addition to these competitive grant awards, the foundation announced grants totaling $315,000 to 11 organizations from the Dollie Ruth Neal Education Fund. The purpose of this fund is to provide educational opportunities for women across West Texas, with an emphasis on empowering single mothers to become self-sufficient.

The foundation ended 2017 with more than $175 million in total assets and plan to continue investing and improving the West Texas communities the foundation serves.
