MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - Micah Jean Marie, 13 started her return trip home to Haiti on June 21 flying out of DFW, after spending several weeks in Midland to get surgery done on her eyes.

Before her treatment, Micah suffered from detached lenses in both of her eyes.

Doctors say this condition caused Micah's vision to be blurry with an inability to focus.

Micah received two pro bono lens replacement surgeries from Midland Memorial hospital, thanks to the hospital's leadership and coordination from Dr. Roger Belizaire and his wife Amelia who met Micah while on a mission trip to the island country.

The surgeries were performed by Dr. Shah of the hospital's Eye Institute

Since her surgeries Micah has regained her vision and can now read and write without any stress on her eyes.

Micah says she would one day like to return to the United States for college.

Micah arrived safely in Haiti and made it to her home on June 22.
