MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - To honor National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, the Texas Department of Transportation is launching its "Share the Road: Look Twice for Motorcycles" campaign with an event on the night of May 19.

This event is from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Security Bank Ballpark, 5514 Champions Dr., near the Midland Rock Hounds game.

Through this visual experience, visitors will get to use a virtual reality video game that puts them behind the wheel of a vehicle driving alongside a motorcycle.

The purpose of the campaign is to urge drivers to watch carefully for motorcyclists by sharing the road.

Last year, 501 motorcyclists died and 2,101 were injured in Texas crashes. In Midland-Odessa, seven motorcyclists died and 71 were injured in crashes last year.
