(KWES) - Law enforcement is not only an honorable calling, it is also a dangerous one. When every instinct would tell you and I to run, these are the people you can count on to stand firm and meet the unknown evil head on.
There is a great sacrifice to serve and protect. In Midland County alone, we have lost three in the line of duty; across our state more than 1,900 peace officers have died in service, 18 in the past year.
Consider this: Take time this week to thank a police officer, sheriff's deputy or state trooper. One way you can do this is by attending the Peace Officers Memorial tomorrow at 10am at Stonegate Fellowship in Midland. If you can't make it, NewsWest 9 will also live stream the service on our website and social media. It's an event to honor Texas law enforcement officers that have been killed in the line of duty over the past year. The names of each officer will be read aloud, and a rose will be placed in their memory.
To those of you who give of yourself day in and day out; and to your families… thank you … and know you have our community's gratitude for the choice you have made to serve and protect the Permian Basin.
