MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland ISD School Board Vice President Karen Nicholson resigned from her position on Monday, after 12 years of service.
After joining the Board of Trustees in 2006, Nicholson has played an important role in some of the district's biggest opportunities and decisions.
She was instrumental in bringing three 21st-century elementary schools to the city and helping to renovate 11 others.
This renovation also happens to be the largest school bond ever approved by the community of Midland.
Nicholson has also been an active member of the community in other ways, having served as president of the Midland Council of PTA, a member of the Midland Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee and president of the League of Women Voters chapter in Midland.
According to MISD, Nicholson and her husband plan to relocate to Austin in order to spend more time with their two daughters and grandchildren.
MISD will be hosting a special reception at 4:30 p.m., May 14 at Bowie Fine Arts Academy to honor Nicholson for her hard work and dedication.
